IMG_3079How To Pack The Essentials

To my husbands dismay I am the queen of overpacking. In past international travels we’ve rushed to the airport extra early so I could check my beastly sized bags. Sometimes these bags were so heavy that I had to pay extra, or embarrassingly move stuff around from one bag to another until the weight pleased the person checking me in. Throwing panties and beauty products around in front of complete strangers is mortifying to say the least. I didn’t like this process, and I certainly didn’t like dragging my heavy luggage throughout our otherwise relaxing travels.

So… I forced myself to come up with an answer. I was always worried about not having something I needed, or looking like I wore the same outfit in all of our photos. Lucky for you I have found a solution to overpacking and you will NOT look like you repeated the same outfit for a week straight.

First off, scarves and jewelry are your new best friends.

If you pack mostly black and white articles of clothing you can alternate printed and colorful scarves, as well as different pieces of jewelry to make your wardrobe look new and exciting each day. In addition to these light weight & easily packable accessories, I have a list of wardrobe essentials.

If you are traveling overseas for a week or less these are my 12 must have items:

1. One black dress

2. One nice pair of jeans

3. One pair of shorts (unless you’re going on a skiing trip)

4. One white tank

5. One black t-shirt

6. One black blazer

7. One swimsuit (even in cold climates you may want to use the jacuzzi at your hotel)

8. One pair of flats

9. One pair of heels

10. One pair of sneakers (these will come in handy for walking & working out)

11. One pair of nice flip flops (these are comfortable and easy to slip on & off if you have a long flight)

12. One pair of black leggings (these will come in VERY handy at the end of your vacation if you’ve eaten like I do while on holiday)

I do not recommend bringing your most expensive jewelry pieces if you are planning to switch up your looks. It can get tangled, or even worse, easily lost. I still get upset when I think about a special pearl necklace I lost in Chicago a few years back. That being said, costume jewelry is a safe bet.

Traveling light is much easier than it seems, best wishes packing for your next trip!

Simply Nina
