The Perfect Palm Springs Getaway

Summer is here and I adore sneaking out of town as often as possible, even if it’s just for a night. Living in Los Angeles is wonderful for many reasons, one being that you can drive an hour and a half and find yourself in the peaceful Palm Springs desert. Still filled with Old Hollywood charm, great shopping, retro hotels, and super cute dining spots… it’s ideal for romantic getaways and girls trips.

My husband and I recently did a midweek getaway to Palm Springs, and it was just what the doctor ordered! We were lucky enough to sneak away on a Wednesday, which made our drive in super quick and our hotel less crowded than it would be on a weekend. We stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage, and it couldn’t have been more perfect.

BONUS: we booked it using our Amex Business Platinum Card which gave us a few added perks

– a credit towards hotel spending

– a credit towards breakfast

– and a late check-out (thank you Amex).

This hotel also happens to be VERY dog friendly. They even have a page on their room service menu dedicated just to animals. My French Bulldog had the time of her life.

After we settled into our pool adjacent room, we enjoyed lunch & cocktails by the adult pool (Ella included). The view and cocktails there are spectacular, and I love that they have separate pools for couples and families vacationing with their kids. I adore children, but there are times when you just want peace and quiet to enjoy a good read or a nice glass of pinot grigio without being splashed.

There are plenty of wonderful dining spots in Palm Springs, but one of my all time favorites is Las Casuelas. Their food is great, ambience is fun, margaritas are on point, and their prices are modest. The night we were there the live band was asked to play “You Look Wonderful Tonight,” and a man jumped down on one knee and proposed to his now fiancee in front of the entire restaurant. It’s been wonderful energy every time I’ve been there.

After more than our fair share of Mexican food we donated some money to the local casino, and headed back to the hotel where we played cards on our warm patio before renting a movie and falling into dreamy sleep. Their beds feel like breezy pillows.

Located within the hotel is an adorable restaurant called State Fare Bar + Kitchen. For breakfast I ordered the Ale braised short ribs and poached eggs. This dish was drizzled with rich hollandaise sauce and worked miracles for soaking up the margaritas from the evening prior.

After breakfast we headed to the pool to work on our tans, do some light reading, enjoy mojitos (why not when on vacation), and have lunch. We eat a lot. We ordered the kale chicken salad and a turkey wrap. The wrap came with fries and a couple dips that were SO good I would’ve eaten them with a spoon if I was by myself. I’d 100% order both lunch items again.

Later that afternoon we packed up, Ella made sure to say goodbye to all the staff (she’s a bit of a flirt), and my husband raided the lobby candy bar one last time. The staff here were super friendly and I look forward to returning soon. The spa looks fantastic and the hotel offers nature hikes every morning, both are on my to-do list for our next visit.

Located just twenty minutes outside of Palm Springs are the Desert Hills Premium Outlets, a must visit in my opinion. If you’ve never been to these outlets you’re in for a real treat. They literally have everything… Jimmy Choo, La Perla, Burberry, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Rag & Bone, Kate Spade, All Saints, YSL, Tory Burch, you name it. I could spend an entire day there if my dog and husband weren’t hinting to go home.

Between the sunshine, glamorous history, gambling and shopping… Palm Springs is the perfect place to sneak off to for a quick trip. The best part… you only need to pack a swimsuit, a couple sundresses, sunscreen and your pet.
