Change Your Mindset, Change Your Body



With summer just 18 days away it’s time to dig deep and get up off your booty. Even more importantly it’s time to start feeling good about yourself! Saying “no” to a pool party or vacation by the beach (followed by a lame excuse) is the OLD you. Wouldn’t you rather say “yes” to throwing on a cute bikini, feeling confident, and making this the healthiest summer of your life? Not just physically, but mentally as well. That is the NEW you.

I’ll be the first to admit that my metabolism isn’t as “user-friendly” as it was 10 (or even 5) years ago, I’m still trying to obtain my “ideal” summer body. But that isn’t an excuse to let ourselves go and hide indoors with Bravo TV this summer. Every now and then we need to remind ourselves that hard work and dedication really do pay off. Sadly we live in a world where we’ve all become addicted to instant gratification and it’s challenging to shake off the Veruca Salt mentality…

For Example:

– We want groceries but don’t have time to go to the store (or don’t feel like leaving the house)… so type what we want into our phones and/or laptops and those items magically appear on our doorstep within 30 minutes. Thank you Postmates, I promise I’m not complaining.

– We want “flawless skin” for photos we’re posting on Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat… lucky for us there are apps and filters for that.

– We want to look tan for an upcoming event… So we hire someone to airbrush our skin the perfect shade of sun-kissed gold, and we suddenly look like we’ve been in the Bahamas for a week.




Needless to say, it can be incredibly frustrating when we have to work REALLY hard at something and the results take a long time to present themselves! However, in my humble opinion, good things are ALWAYS worth working for. And when an easier route knocks on the door that seems ” too good to be true”, it usually is just that.




Here are 3 easy steps that will help you FEEL AS GREAT AS YOU LOOK:

1. CONGRATULATE YOURSELF: Know that seeing results even when you’re eating clean and working out takes time. Weighing yourself every few days is fine, but don’t order an extra large pizza with a side of Ben & Jerry’s when you haven’t lost 5 pounds in 2 days. Also, remember that muscle weighs more than fat, so measuring your waist might be a better alternative if you’re like me and gain muscle easily. If you notice your body getting tighter and your clothes getting a little looser, give yourself a high five… you’re healthier & thinner than you were last week & that in itself is a victory!


2. HAVE FUN: It may sound cliche, but doing activities that you enjoy rather than exercises you hate will completely change your mindset. Work-outs are much more enjoyable when they feel like recess versus detention. So whether its dancing, tennis with a friend, hiking a gorgeous trail, relaxing in yoga class, or surfing at the beach… Find an activity that you love, and it will feel more like a treat than a chore. You may also find that you do this activity longer than planned because it brings you joy.


3. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH ENCOURAGING COMPANY: I’m not saying that you need to fire all family members and friends who enjoy cheeseburgers and beer on a daily basis… But I do find that surrounding yourself with people who share similar goals, enjoy eating healthy, are willing to workout with you, and support your ambitions will only help you succeed. Have you ever planned to order a salad at dinner but your companion orders the pasta with extra cheese and garlic bread? It’s easy to follow their lead in these situations. Try surrounding yourself with people who share similar goals, your results are bound to be greater.
