5 Last Minute Tips To Make Sure Your House Is Christmas Ready…

You have less than 24 hours to go ’till friends, family, and whomever else invited themselves over shows up on your doorstep hungry and ready to “get their merry on”. Most likely you haven’t finished decorating, wrapping gifts is still on the to-do list (some of you haven’t even started shopping), and the idea of cooking makes you want to hide under your duvet. Do not fret, these quick tips will make your house look like you’ve been prepping all season. As for the cooking… That’s another another story, good luck.

1. CHRISTMAS TREE: If you don’t have a tree up, go get one! It doesn’t need to be “Griswald” worthy in size, any tree will do. I prefer a fresh cut tree because they make the entire house smell delicious… But if you’re short on time (or have allergies) you can always get a faux tree from Target, OSH or Home Depot. Even a 2 foot tree is more festive than nothing at all.

2. DECORATE YOUR PORCH: It’s nice to have your guests get in the spirit the moment they ring your bell. So… I suggest putting out fresh poinsettias, a wreath, a holiday door mat, and/or Christmas lights. If you’re short on time and cannot acquire these items you can also wrap your front door with wrapping paper and a huge bow.

3. FRESH FLOWERS: Having fresh flowers is also a plus. They add life and color to any room, and they obviously smell pretty. I adore red and/or white floral arrangements for this time of year, but any flowers or plants will work. Picking some from the yard is always great when pressed for time.

4. DISPLAY HOLIDAY CARDS: Who doesn’t love getting Christmas cards?! Wear those babies like a badge of honor. Think about it: your friends really went out of their way to dress-up their kids (& sometimes pets), keep them from crying for one magical photo,  and create beautiful card stock with those images. If they will be attending Christmas dinner at your home I highly suggest displaying their card!

If you are looking for a fun & creative way to display them and don’t have a fireplace, or have no room left on your mantel, I recommend hanging them from twine. Simply tape the twine to the wall, then tape the back of the cards to the rope, and let them hang. It’s simple to do and looks like you put a lot of work into it.

5. DRESS YOUR PET UP: Yes it’s ridiculous, and that’s why it’s so fun! Who can have an angry guest or mother-in-law when there’s a dog (or cat) dressed in cocktail attire, or sporting reindeer ears?!? It also makes for great photo ops.

Hope these tips help bring holiday cheer into your home!
